Get the laptop PC now and buy a Mac Mini with the $800 you save (wait for the next refresh).

palpatine - I am so impressed with my new Apple products. And I am retired from Sony:D

I used to love Sony. I gave up on the company. So much talent and ingenuity being bundled together into confusing products at even more confusing prices. Apple products regularly astound me with their sophisticated design.

As for the idea about the mini, that sounds like a great solution as well.

And I think it boils down to the OS for me, now... Windows or Mac OS?

Your post got me thinking about how much I love Mac OS. I think I might just get a Mac instead.

Uh.......if saving $1000 for better specs overall wasn't enough to sway you to get the HP, then nothing could have swayed you.

Get the MacBook Pro because that's what you want to buy, and pretending that you're actually considering the HP is a farce.

Buy what you like since you said you can handily afford either machine.

You are unlikely to need Mac OS X in college. The HP is significantly cheaper. The HP is also less likely to get stolen.

Windows 7 is a nice OS. I prefer Mac OS X for most tasks, but Microsoft Office works better on Windows, especially Excel. Microsoft Access is Windows only, and while a terrible database implementation, it is often required for certain business classes (AIS/MIS).

I choose Mac OS X because it makes life easier for video editing and audio recording, and because I have disposable income.

I'm not sure it qualifies as a recall. Also, a MacBook Pro uses a total different type of case. Go troll elsewhere.

Every computer has its incidents. The question is what does each company do about it? And so far, Apple still seems the best there.

Yes, aluminum that dimples and dents.

Troll? That's hilarious. Thanks for the laugh. I sell them.
No, I don't sell trolls. I sell Macs. :apple:
But I refuse to check my brain at the door at work
and become a fanboi cultist. Nope.

The "best there" at what?
Creating RDFs that mesmerize the gullible into believing that iStuff
doesn't have just as many problems as PC gadgets?
You're holding your logic wrong.

Is this a poem? That's some of the strangest formatting I've ever seen.

One thing to consider. Your $1400 Dell will be worth about $300 in 2 years. Your 2011 15'' MacBook Pro will probably sell for $1,000+

I think you're over-exaggerating the difference. A $1400 Dell will more likely be worth half that in 2 years, and the MBP is almost $2k to start with, so $1000 is around the same percentage. A $1400 Dell is pretty much the top of the line.

A bigger point is that windows machines often have huge discounts - my first Dell was purchased with a $750 off $1500 coupon. I recently bought an HP Envy with a $500 off coupon. Factor that in and the PC can end up being a much better investment. That said, I think a MBP wins hands-down in daily useability.
