iPhone Duo Justifying the iPhone Duo

The Duo will replace my iPhone 17 and none of my other devices.

I will use my iPad Pro less inevitably due to the Duo.

My iPhone is my most important device. I have no hesitation about spending a ton of money on such a device.

Agreed. Whenever people mention price and the fact it's just a phone, it doesn't really resonate with me. These are pocket PCs and a large amount of people use it exactly that way. I can't think of many personal use devices that are as important.

Two questions for you:

What did Apple give you for your 11" pro?

Are you actually able to apply a gift card to your purchase when you go to checkout with the Duo? For some reason in my mind it doesn't let you split payments easily when ordering a new phone. Maybe do a dummy run on an existing phone and see if it would allow you to apply the gift card.

I have the M4 AirPad Pro. Apple gave me $685 for it. Not bad.

I would THINK you can apply a gift card AND a trade-in for a new phone for purchase. That is what I am doing.

For financing under their new programs, not sure.

Until I get the gift card, I won't know for sure. Thankfully, another 4 weeks till the Duo preorder. I should have the gift card by then as my iPad gets delivered back to them on Monday.


EDIT: AI is telling me you can use both a trade-in and a gift card when purchasing a new phone.

The question is whether you can finance it under their new programs with that combination.

In my opinion, I'd love to buy it - but I don't have the spare money to spend on it. The Iphone Duo would be my ideal phone probably.

However, why does someone have to justify their purchases to other people?

Do not do that. You will be very unhappy. And end up buying 1 or more of those devices again.

The fact that you feel you have to justify the purchase to yourself should be a big red flag to not buy. Creating a thread on an Apple fanatic forum often distorts real world reality.

My business used Google Pixel Fold has been great, albeit the awful battery life and thermal issues so it sits on my desk all the time plugged in....

Just like my M5 Mac Studio I leased for business (tax expense) which was valid as my M1 was lagging - don't know if I can justify adding another business expense....

Which models of foldable phone that you owned turned into bulky slabs that you didn't really unfold after awhile?

The second and 3rd Pixel Folds. First one was the best. The OG and current Ultra Z Fold because of the candy bar shape and narrowness, it became a pain. Even had the Motorola Fold thinking a great camera would get me to stick with it, but opening these devices became an annoyance, but I feel with the minimal black bars, the traditional phone shape you get when opening up the regular Z Fold8 and the iPhone Duo, just feels more natural and the shape of the front screen helps with easy replies to messages and ready emails makes it way more inviting. All the above phones, I never kept for a year, but before the latest new trend of wide-body foldable phones, the original Pixel Folds was the best because shape matters.

I thought it is strange. Well for the price it feels like pocketable iPad Mini
But size comparison between two, the iPhone Duo is still smaller, its length is equivalent to 7" android tablet
The iPad Mini is still 1 inch longer, and about 1 cm taller than the biggest iPhone duo they will ever made
For watching movies and reading it will still be a disadvantage for the iPhone Duo as it will also won't support iPad Apps.
Even the iPhone Duo with its 7.6" cannot support desktop sites which is funny 🤣😆🤣😆

Apple remains the King of Marketing.

The opening animation is brilliant and clever but you have to open it in a specific way to see it and the novelty will wear off fast. But right now everyone is going nuts over it.

The night-stand thing, and the baby smiling thing, and all the other cool stuff they are focussing on are all edge cases.

What they have consistently ignored is: does this work well as a phone. There’s so little information about how apps work on the front screen. Of course the Apple apps look great. And the Netflix one. But we all have dozens of apps we use every day. How do they look?
