People line up in droves hours before it opens, the first thousand get free T-shirts. The store is packed all day. They fly in other store employees from all over the place to help out. I talked to a guy in the genius bar about my PowerBook sleep issue and it turns out he actually worked at the Apple Store in Dallas, and was flown in for the day.

Thats it?

What do you expect? Every hundredth customer to get a free sexual favor by the employee of their choice? ;)

Sure it would be nice to give away some free hardware/software goodies, but it seems that they are packed enough. You give out free hardware, and you'll likely be doing a drawing of some sort, and that means people want to hang out, and you can't hold more than 60 or so people in the store at the same time, so you couldn't have all 2,000+ people waiting to see if their number is called.

So you just hang out their and use apple products?

Fun....I guess

I'm Happy

Now there is an Apple store only 3 hours away from me, as opposed to 8. I didn't realize it was already open, or am I mistaken?

I went to the store opening... it was pretty cool. I got there over an hour early and was in the very first group of people let in the store, and I got a T-shirt :D

My friend took some pictures, maybe I'll be able to post them here as soon as I get them.

Its nice finally having an Apple store about 30 minutes away :)

I stayed up all night! I'm still tired today. I couldn't sleep my wife and daughter went home for a couple hours and slept.

i dont have a pic of the shirt yet, but its just black with a small apple logo on the front and text somewhere along the lines of "Apple Store, Country Club Plaza".

izzle22 - you brought your wife and daughter with you? did they want to go as badly as you or were they involuntary? i know if my dad dragged me up to some computer store to camp out all night I'd be pretty pissed :D
(I am a guy by the way, just for clarification) :)

did you see Channel 9 News there? My friend went with me; He wore the "Windows for Solitaire" shirt, and I wore my "Mac Geek" shirt... and the Channel 9 guy kept getting close up shots of our shirts. I hate being videotaped, but it seems the news people always come after me
Same thing happened when we videotaped President Bush's speech at our school not too long ago... of all the kids there, they had to interview me. <sigh> oh well...

Yeah, they do. My sister goes to the University of Kansas, and the campus is full of computers :D. She even has one in her dorm room! I was actually surprised by what a nice town Lawrence is, and how beautiful the campus was. It was very hilly, nothing like what you expect Kansas to look like. Not even a corn field in sight.

Oh, and the Kansas City Apple Store is in Kansas City, Missouri. :)

lawrence = awesome.
and ku is one of the most mac-friendly campuses i've ever seen. they have a mini apple store in the union with its own certified technician.

It's amazong

It's amazing how ignorant so many people are. The majority of Kansas City is actually in Missouri. It also houses the nation's largest duty-free trade zone...KC is a wonderful place to live--Great economy, nice people and tons to do.

lol...I was joking! I've been there before...Plus, this was resolved three times over on the front page.

I am so jealous. I grew up in South Kansas City on the Kansas side in Johnson County.

Can't wait to see pics...on the subject of KC Kansas just about the only positive thing going in in KCK is the school district. It has actually been very successful at taking a pathetic district and turning it into one of the best success stories...lets hope it lasts.

By the way, St. Louis is in two states as well...East St. Louis.

My wife and daughter were the ones that wanted to stay. I wanted to go home and sleep and come back early in the morning, they said lets just stay all night. I know it's crazy but I was ok with it if they were! By the way do you live in Liberty(that's where Bush came a few months back) I live right around the corner from that school.

I live in Lee's Summit, not Liberty, but I know that Bush was touring all of Missouri, not just Lee's Summit.
It was very cool that they let us get up in the press booth and record the whole event... it was fun :)

I live in Johnson County, Olathe to be exact, and I think I am gonna head down there tonight. I just got my PB but it will still be cool to go down there and see what the store has. I'm addicted to my Mac now...
