The right-click option to keep a folder arranged by name is no longer working in my Applications folder. It seems to work with other folders but for some reason the Applications folder defaults back to 'arranged by Kind' every time I open it.
This is getting frustrating...any tips for permanently setting it to stay sorted by name would be appreciated.

It should work after you select it. Try repairing permissions on Disk Utility.

Per your suggestion, I just tried that. No luck, unfortunately.

In the "View Options" did you check the box for "Use this as my default"?

The "Use this as defaults" button is shaded out in my "View Options". I cannot press it. Any idea how to correct that?

I'm not at my Mac so I can't dupliate your issue, but just out of curiosity, your specifically talking about the finder right? Not the dock/stack (in grid mode)?

One thing to try is do the view option from another folder? Make a change and see if it un-grays itself.

Yes, in Finder.

Good suggestion.
I just tried it in 2 more folders. The buttom remains unchanged.

I appreciate the help so far. You can see how this problem is a little frustrating.
