Their flagship dock. It's a beauty.
And yes, this can actually blow up your iPhone. It pumps 50 watts of electricity, which means there's 10 amps of power to be dealt with at 5V.
5V 10A and 50 watts? Here's for a comparison. Turns out, that cube charger that comes with your iPhone is a monster. It pushes out 1A of power. How's that for a comparison?
You're confusing audio line wattage and power line wattage. And audio wattage is marketing crap. Reality is most audio anyone hears (outside of a concert setting) is below 1w of power.

1. You have no concept of how a tube amp works, do you?
2. Read the thread. I was referring to when this thing is faulty and shorts out.

  1. I'm not an expert about to give a dissertation, but I assumed that there would be a separate supply for iPod and amp in such a crossover device. No?
  2. That would certainly be an impressive short to cross those wires (speaker out, ipod in) accidentally.

A tube amp has a separate power supply, yes. However, it directly takes the audio out from the source, applies high-voltage amplification within a vacuum tube, and pushes the amplified signal out the speakers. In this process, a simple short in the dock connector is all that is needed to make your iPhone go boom.
Also, 50 watts isn't that much for a tube amp. Tube amps made for guitars are usually rated at 200-600 watts.
