I really love my 512Gb 12.9” ipad pro but cant decide if im going to keep it or not. I’m debating returning it for the 256gb to save some cash or returning it entirely and waiting for the inevitable updated model hopefully soon. This device is incredible though and is doing exactly what I it to. It has basically become my electronic lab notebook and reference manager for my phd work and I’ve been finding myself to be more productive while having it. Just cant decide if it’s wortn tne $2000cad that i paid for it with pencil, apple cover, and sd card reader. I’m hoping that tomorrows WWDC will help decide for me but im unsure. I feel like its very up in the air when the new pros will launch. I could actually seeing it be 2019 at this point.

Getting rid of it may stunt your productivity and possibly increase stress. Assuming that you need significantly less than 256GB downgrading should not cripple your productivity. If you downgrade you could decide if you want to buy the 2018 in 256GB that way you will have one for work and one for fun.
I wouldnt be able to justify having two. I plan to use it for photography while travelling instead of having to bring my macbook pro with me. Thats why i initially opted for the 512gb model
Will the new 2018 model have a better camera? If so that would be justification to send your current one back in order to afford the new 2018 with better camera for traveling. If the camera stays at 12 mega-pixel it could be cheaper to buy a 2017 certified refurbished from apple for a cheaper price.
Editing photos from my dslr, i wouldnt be caught dead taking a photo on an ipad unless it was to scan a document. I thought that was implied given that i mentioned it would be replacing my macbook for travelling in terms of photography.

I've never really understood why people pay the premium for extra internal storage. 256 is comfortable. External portable's are so tiny these days that for a hundred bucks or so you can add 4TB to your device.
IPP 256 + RavPower Filehub + external gives you so much more flexibility too. Can just put the SD card from your DSLR into the device
I ended up getting 512 last time. it's a thinkpad and was standard with the top end machine I bought. It's too small to fit EVERYTHING I have and too large for just the basics + music + 50 movies.
Because external storage can't be used by the apps I use. comiXology is the primary culprit taking up storage space on my iPads (256GB 9.7 & 512GB 12.9). I've de-duplicated content so the 9.7 holds only manga and select American comics favorites while the 12.9 is primarily dedicated to American comics. The 9.7 only has apps, books and manga. Don't use it to store any music or videos.
Personally, even 4TB can't hold all my media (got 20TB at home) but I do use them for videos during long trips.
Got it. Just curious how many megs would one comic be? Never seen a digital one. My ebooks are tiny, but I guess that’s just text. Good quality? I wouldn’t mind a whole set of tintin and asterix actually. The only two comics I was really into.
comiXology has the highest resolution and quality I've seen for purchased comics (viewed with the iOS app, the web browser version uses lower quality images). I don't think Asterix or Tintin are available, though. Mind, I have fond memories of reading tattered copies of those in our school library.
I reckon size depends on image complexity and whether they've updated books to HD. I've seen standard 32-page single issue comics (really 23-25 pages with cover without ads) use 100MB although 40-50MB seems to be the average. The same 100MB book downloaded as azw3 from Amazon using the "Download and transfer via USB method" for e-ink readers might be as small as 15MB. Of course, the 15MB file looks like crap on the big iPad - very noticeable JPEG artifacts.
My manga volumes (160-200 pages) seem to range from 100-500MB with newer releases being on the larger end of the scale. At the moment, my collection averages out to 250-300MB per volume on comiXology whereas the same books are 40-50MB downloads on my 6" Kindle Paperwhite.
I think Amazon uses higher quality images for the Kindle for iOS app, too than what's available on Kindle for Windows or their e-ink readers.
One problem is background downloading (or lack thereof) on iOS. You can't just leave the app to download comics overnight. It times out after 10 minutes, iirc, so you kinda have to babysit making clearing space and later re-downloads quite annoying.

Need fast internet and definitely the 512gb storage. Heck you’d probably go for a 1tb is available and this is your passion
Oh yes, 1TB is an almost instant purchase. I say almost because if the new model has a notch, that's a major deterrent and 512GB is good enough for my use considering I've got a dual iPad setup anyway (albeit 1TB would certainly allow more leeway).
Before the iPad, I spent a small fortune on crappy Windows-based tablets for my manga reading. They barely lasted 2-4 hours before either battery dying out or overheating. The iPad is so much nicer.
TinTin online? Where? I also have all the hard copies bound from ages back. Digital copies would be so cool!!

Darknet is a website or the dark web you access through Torr? I mean I *could* painstakingly scan every issue I have but man, the time that would take. Whew! I'll cheat a bit and download them and will donate my hard copies to poor kids. Everyone wins!

It sounds like you get greater benefit from having and using it than if you were to return it and wait for the new model. I had the same dilemma a few months before the WWDC keynote, especially since it was slated to happen right around the time my summer classes started. When it came and went, I was through waiting and took the plunge on a 2nd gen 12.9". Frankly, I don't regret buying it at all.
Not sure if you're still trying to work out what to do, but I don't think you should feel bad if Apple *does* announce new hardware in September -- the current models are no slouch by any means. If you decide you want to keep your 2nd gen and want to save some money, going with the 256GB model wouldn't be a bad idea. Heck, Microcenter has them on sale for up to 150 bucks off, if I recall right, which would net you more savings.

I currently have used 360GB on my iPad Pro. I would not want to have less storage. The space is taken by photos, videos, music, documents and apps. I want to have them all available on my iPad to use/reference on my frequent air flights with no Wifi. I upgraded from the 1st generation iPad Pro largely to get more storage space.
Lol, just meant the not so legal underbelly of the internet.
DeepWeb is a scary place though. Not sure I would trust any content downloaded from there. It's full of CP.
