For me, I doubt I'll have a choice. IF the new iPhone is 4g as we suspect, I'll be forced out of me grandfathered, unlimited 3G plan with VZ.

But yesterday, I also remembered that my daughter has an upgrade available NOW, so I will probably use her upgrade to go from my 4s to the "5" or whatever it will be called, and give her my 4s. Then it'll be everyone on VZ's "share everything" plan, which pretty much = what I'm paying now anyway.

My wife and I rarely use more than 1 GB each per month anyway.

Are you sure that's the case? I have unlimited data from VZW also and I was told more than once that as long as I buy my phone for full price off contract I could keep my unlimited plan even with LTE.

perfect example of throttling not mattering.....I stream a lot of music when i Drive....they can slow the speed, but it still streams flawlessly and I do not have to worry about how much data I use.

Have you actually got the "Warning Message" from AT&T?

Thank you to everybody for your contributions in this thread. I think it's an important subject to discuss. I have absolutely no desire to wait in line for the next iPhone.

What I'll probably end up doing is firing up both AT&T's site and Apple's once the pre-order becomes live (assuming they both are live at the same time). I would prefer using AT&T's site however it's just a question of what site works best for me. As you probably know the pre-order pages can be a mess once they become live because of high traffic. I've also bookmarked this thread and will refer back to it on the morning of September 12th. Does anybody recall when the online pre-order begins? Is it immediately after the keynote? Another day afterwards?

I'm in the same boat as you, so thank you for starting this thread, and thank you to everyone contributing information

Pre-Orders usually do not start the day of the Keynote.

That is dirty that verizon does that. How does the unlimited share everything work? What if you only have phone service through them?

If you have only one phone, you pay $40 for phone access plus the data, which for one phone would probably be about $50 I think. I know for 6 GB of shared data, they charge $80, and it moves up in $10/2GB increments.

But you pay $40 per smartphone no matter what, they call it the "access charge."

I spoke with a rep just yesterday about it. I HOPE he's wrong, but he said if I move to a 4G/LTE phone, I'd need a new contract and they simply don't offer the unlimited data plans any longer.

Again, I hope he's wrong, but I called yesterday.

EDIT. You are correct, if you purchase a phone for full price, you can keep the unlimited. I didn't fully understand your question, sorry.

i just looked into it on their website and the cheapest "shared" plan stated at $100

Ah ok, then the basement on the data plan must be $60, plus the 'per phone' charge of $40.

I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not, as I've had 2 phones on my plan for over 15 years (and 2 smartphones on the plan since the BB Curve came about). I do know that if I add my oldest daughter (using my existing 4s phone, assuming I get the new one) with 3 smartphones and 6gb of data, it's $200. Even if I select the 4gb of data, it's $190.

Thankfully, I get a 20% discount through my employer off the data package, so I'll save about $14 to $20 per month.

Anyway, bottom line, if I get the new phone, they're forcing me out of my unlimited plan and into this 'share everything' plan.

as an individual with 1 phone, it is not worth it at all. If you have more than 1 line it can save you money.
