iPhone 12 Pro Keeping iPhone charged between 40-80%?

I use Carplay a lot as i use it to commute to and from work which is 45mins each way and phone needs to be plugged in, therefore charging, for it to work....be far too much like hard work to keep to this sort of charging policy whilst factoring in car journeys etc.

Y’all are putting waaaaaaaay too much energy on a cheap replaceable part. Unless you live in the developing world and a battery replacement is too much I don’t see the reason for expending so much thought on charging the dumb phone man.

I see the obsessive thinking on the Tesla forums but at least the battery pack is 20k to replace at this time so it’s reasonable thing to worry about but jeeez have some perspective.

My launch day 11PM is still at 100% capacity, I never let it get bellow 50%. Usually when I go to bed it's at like 60-70% still.

I live in a developing country and battery replacement is not much, it costs the equivalent of about $65, which is very little considering we buying these phones for the equivalent of over $1200, my 11 Pro Max 256GB was the equivalent of $1875, I’m not going to worry myself about a $65 component that I will replace in 2 years or so.

My understanding is the best way to maintain my iPhone's battery health is to keep the battery between 40% and 80%.

On my MacBook Pro I cap the charge at 70% and leave it always plugged in, I can't do this for the iPhone so is the best thing to use it between 40% and 80% and then to re-charge it when it hits 40%, rinse and repeat? I understand I should also use a slow charger, so the 5W charger for this, rather than the fast charger. Is this correct?

Is this the best way to maintain my iPhone's battery health?
Yes it is. It literally is the best way how to preserve the battery in the best condition no matter what anyone else here says. Battery suffers the most when it's charge capacity is too low or when it's too high. It's exactly why Apple added the optimized battery charging feature in iOS.

They should remove Battery Health to end this interminable debate and the forum threads that keep sprouting. I used Android phones for nine years and I don't remember ever giving battery health a thought.
I doubt removing a relatively new feature is going to end a debate that’s been going on far longer than its existence. There are other avenues to see ones battery health.

It doesn’t really matter.

Your battery’s management chip count how many mAh being used. Each time when you used up designed capacity (for example, iPhone 7 use 1960mAh battery, each time you used up 1970mAh) you get one cycle count.

It doesn’t really matter if you used it up or capped at 40% and charged to 80%.

Your battery also has chip to prevent over current. Really, fast charge does not damage your battery what do ever. Because most heat generated from charging are dissipate by charger.
Eh. I’d still avoid fast charging if I don’t need it (like at night) Had a OnePlus 7 Pro and after 6 months the battery already felt really degraded. Now I have the iPhone 11 Pro and the battery is still perfect to this day and I only fast charge when I actually need it. During the day I also unplug before hitting 80% if I notice it. Since this phone already has amazing battery life i won’t need the full 100 usually anyways.

Agree. Fast charging degraded my battery on my 11 Pro Max so much faster. Lost 13% of battery health within the first year. I don’t use fast charging for my current iPhone and Galaxy phone and it’s so much better. No overheating since I started using the 5W charger.

I use iPad18W charger and always charge to 100%. Launch day iPhone 12 still have 100% battery. Heck even my iPhone 8 Plus still have 92% battery after all these years.

I really can’t handle 5W charger. It takes 3 hours to charge iPhone 12.

Couldn’t agree more. I only use the official Apple 20W fast charger (wired, none of that MagSafe BS) which doesn’t get ‘hot’ and charges my 12 mini so fast it’s ridiculous. And guess what, the battery health is still at 100% and I’m a heavy user who charges it twice a day quite often.

Even more significant may be to keep the battery cool and away from extreme heat (like on the dashboard of the hot car). Heat will kill lithium batteries fast.

I use a 5W charger for both my iPhone 12 and iPad 6th generation.
