Given that any launch day iPhone 11 has paid 14 months on their IUP loan, how many people just can't return the phone and walk away from the extra money on the table? I can pay the phone off in just 10 more payment -- I'm giving it to a family member.

I already paid the tax, and over half the value of the phone. If I had to buy a new phone, I'd for sure pay more than the $640 owing.

But, I also realize it's a 1 year old phone now..

Is anyone else torn on returning their old iPhone this year?

I’m keeping mine. Paying more than half is one of the reasons this year.

By using the IUP you are already 'walking away from the extra money on the table'. You are paying for AppleCare+ every month (a needless expenditure to me) and giving back a phone you already paid for half of when it's worth more than half. What's a couple more payments?

So there’s something to be said about the hassle free service Apple provides for Apple care + and also the convenience of not dealing with private buyers and haggling prices and chances of potential being scammed on online platforms.

Personally I don’t have the time or the energy for that kind of headache and a couple of hundred spread across the whole year is definitely worth it for me.

And so a couple of extra payments beyond 12, on your existing iPhone, shouldn't make a difference while waiting on the new one to release. 😉 Paying for convenience.

Did the numbers...should I sale 11PM/64GB/MG/great conditions on Swappa will net me $122 after fees/shipping. That was last week before launch on Friday. I can imagine today would make less. I actually decided to list it last week. Sold on Wednesday but guess what? I immediately noticed many red flags. Buyer was a new account. Buyer never asked for lower price. Buyer was from Nigeria. Buyer had put address to ship to a freight forwarder local here in my area (Miami). The biggest red flag was pay pal emailing saying money on hold till buyer receive phone. No thanx. I immediately got in contact with swappa. Cancelled sale. Refunded on PP immediately. Buyer never even wrote back to say anything nor defend himself. So on Friday when I went to apple store to pick up my 12PM I immediately turned in the 11PM to close out that loan.

Good for you. Having the latest and greatest comes at a price. I make my deal with the devil (IUP) every year. Yes, I get I could keep it, sell it on my own, etc. Ain't worth the hassle for $100 and dealing with buyers. My pay-off was $542, fine with me.

Yeah it just took it over the line for me because of paying for convenience + the extra payment in IUP process and all that for a phone that wasn’t giving me enough of an upgrade to begin with. So I couldn’t be bothered.

Keeping for convenience this time around.
