Keeping OS & Aps on one drive, and moving the rest else where. HELP!!!

Wow... Sorry to hear about the log-in problem. I honestly don't know what went wrong.

For future reference, ditto is a copy command that you can use in the terminal. This moves over more information that simply copying a folder.

People seem to have moved the Users folder around just fine in Leopard. I wonder why the protocol didn't work here...

I don't know why, very strange. On the page where I got the info from there was another guy with the same problem - so at least I know it wasn't just me.

It's ok though, I've found a relatively elegant work around. I've got Aperture, iTunes and Final Cup Pro all referencing data on the second drive, and I've made folders on my second drive called 'documents, movies, music, pictures', and changed their icons so that they look like the actual OS created folders, and then put them into the Finder side bar in place of the OS created ones. Looks good and works great. I'm sure I'll come across some programs, perhaps Photobooth that will insist on storing its images in the OS created 'pictures' file, but I'm not too bothered since speed is only important for my main aps, photoshop, aperture and final cut.

One think I'll have to change though is my habit of storing current working files on my desktop. I'll have to keep them elsewhere, and then make shortcuts to them on my desktop. That way I'll always be maintaing the data on the second drive for speed.
