I never had a problem before last night. I was on my iPad (3rd gen) searching the web, and then safari would close and I'd see the desktop again. I tried several times, and it kept on happening. I made sure I wasn't touching the sides, leaning on the home button etc.

Also I was playing Draw Something (connected with Facebook) and suddenly my iPad was frozen. Had to press the home button to exit the program. I deleted all of my cookies/history. I exited all of the running apps in the background. I also turned the iPad off and rebooted.

I really don't know what to do. I bought the iPad specifically to surf the web and play a couple of games. I still have 12GB free from a 16GB iPad. I'm at work, so I don't know how my iPad is today yet. Maybe I leave it plugged in too long? I charge it at night, and throughout my day at work. Its only unplugged for about 5 hours a day.

This is my first iPad so any tips/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Plugging it in, or not for that matter, shouldn't have an effect on apps closing to the home screen or freezing.

Try opening up the multitasking bar and then removing every single app from the bar. Then do a hard reset of your iPad (hold down power and home button until iPad turns off).

This has fixed apps crashing/freezing for me a number of times in the past.

If that doesn't fix it though, I recommed a restore.

I would recommend doing a hard restart. Hold down the home button and press the power button at the same time. After a few seconds you will see the message at the top with the red sliding button that says "slide to power off" or something like that. Don't slide that button to power off – instead continue holding down the power and home button for another five seconds or so and it should eventually do a "hard reset" of your iPad.

I would recommend giving this a try before doing anything more major like a full system restore.
