Obviously you feel strongly about this bartelby, which is just fine. I'm an animal lover as well, but I have also had to put a couple pets down that I loved dearly, but it was better for them because of the amount of pain they were in.
But in regards to your above-quoted comment, it just doesn't make any sense. Do you realize how much money Barbaro's owners would have made had they been able to use him as a stud?
You said the owners were trying to keep Barbaro alive because they wanted him to race again, that's obviously not the case because, as has already been stated here, that just wasn't possible. It was quite the opposite, the owners wanted to save the horse not to race, but to be bred.
