Two crashes in the last 12 hours.

Here's the log. I don't understand this stuff, but if anyone has any comments that might help me solve the mystery I would appreciate it very much.

I reseated the ram chips after crash #2

Thanks in advance.

No OS crashes in 48 hours. I ran Memtest and the ram checked out okay. Could an app be causing this? Firefox crashes most frequently.

It's rare for an app to cause a kernel panic, but it could be a driver... It's usually hardware though, and remember that a pass on the Apple Hardware Test doesn't necessarily mean the components are all okay. It simply means the tests didn't find anything wrong.

i guess sarcasm is hard to detect. especially with the fact apple fanboys really do believe, say, and breath those very words......jeeze🙄

I used a third party app - Memtest. Run in the single user mode, it was able to test 1924 out of 2GB. No issues. The HD is new from Apple. Two firewire external HDs and a USB printer are attached.

Just crashed again this AM. What other hardware could be at the source of these incidents. They're fairly random.

Software based tests aren't fantastic at finding faults. Try swapping the RAM sticks out physically and see if it still crashes.

Okay.

Now, how's it going running on one chip? Any problems so far?

Good choice! I'm traveling for the Holidays, and the tools are at home. I'll try your suggestion when I return.
