I know its what makes the OS run, but is there any tips/tricks to lower the ram usage? Its normal around 400mb to 500mb for me.
 
You don't need to manage RAM usage. Just use your Mac as you normally would. Mac OS X will manage memory just fine.

It's just that I play games on my mac and a lot of the time my ram usage is at 98%. I guess that ill just need to upgrade 8gb
 
Be sure to include inactive RAM in your numbers for free RAM.

Check your ratio of pageins vs. pageouts - if you have a large amount of pageouts, adding more RAM might improve performance.
