Im on a rMBP 13' new install of 10.9 and on both energy tabs and memory, is "Kernal_Task" which can vary with CPU power as well, what could this be?

I'm also having less battery life then in ML, in ML i had around 6-7, in Mav about 3-4. I've tried SMC and PRAM reset and its still the same, can anyone offer tips on fixing this?

kernel task is an operating system process. it should take up a good deal of memory and it will use a bit of cpu power depending what you are doing. it's perfectly normal.
