Just checking to see what this means.. I was looking in the activity moniter and wwhat excatly are kernal tasks.. I see they were taking up about 56mb of my memory.. What is this.???

thats the kernel for Mac OS X which is pretty much the heart of the operating system. 56 MB of memory is not too much. my Mac has been up for 12.5 hours and kernel_task has used 105 MB of memory.

TIP: dont worry about the root processes, change it to only show your proccesses. the memory that you can manage are the processes run by you.
