Kernal_task question?

Activity Monitor is showing kernal_task? What is that? I don't remember it being there in Panther. I am now running Tiger, but I am getting Leopard today. Should I clean install it or will the kernal_task thing still be there. If it won't go away, i'll just update.

it will never go away, its part of the OS. Either u clean install, upgrade, or whatever, it will always stay there.

If you didn't have kernel_task running, you'd be in pretty big trouble. Which is to say, you wouldn't have a working computer. It is, you know, the kernel...the core of the OS.
