    Hi all,

I'm getting lots of KP's with my mac pro 5.1 with a macvidscard gtx 780. It was intermittent and usually on processing heavy simulations with cuda but now even falls over previewing jpegs when pressing spacebar.

Currently running nvidia web drivers 334.01.03f01 and CUDA 6.0.51 driver which seem to be the most stable, but can't actually use cuda in some of the applications. Latest crash report below, if anyone could help that would be great, considering just buying a cheap gfx card whilst I try and find a solution.

    Hi,

    Sorry you are having trouble.

The panic report indicates that you aren't using Web drivers.

Last kext loaded was an Audio one.

It is possible that your card has gone bad.

So is it worth uninstalling drivers, both nvidia web and cuda are definitely installed, then reinstalling? Is there a sure way to remove all drivers?

How can the card go bad, is it due to the hack or soldering for power?

Doubt it is drivers but worth trying the Web drivers.

As to "How can the card go bad...all electronics have a finite life, very hard to say without looking at it what may have gone wrong.

My first guess would be that perhaps the thermal paste between chip and fan has dried out or gotten disturbed and isn't making good contact. In reality, I have only had one of these cards die outright, in a year of selling them. They have been remarkably reliable. In the Fermi generation (470/480/570/580) they dropped much more often, I have a box full of dead 570s.

Thermal paste is my first guess, you would need a small screwdriver, usually phillips but some are Torx, some solvent and a small tube of new thermal paste. We can send you the paste if you want, or you can return card for evaluation.

In Windows it is possible to track the temperatures and see if card is getting too hot. OS X is so walled up there is no way to know.
