Kernel Panic and Software Update crash

I just had my first kernel panic (and pride panic), restarted, repaired permissions, then decided I should go ahead and update to 10.4.3. The updater now crashes about 3/4 into it.
is there a pref file i need to trash?
 
Try downloading the 10.4.3 Combo Updater directly from Apple's Support site and installing it "manually".
