Can someone please let know what this error report is telling me? I seriously just got the logic board replaced because of a kernel panic that was related to the GPU going out, now I'm wondering if I had a bad logic board replaced with another bad logic board.... please help. Thanks

Since the High Sierra 10.13.3 release, there have been numerous reports on this forum of this kernel panic on the Retina 2012 and early 2013 15" MBP's (or possibly similar issue where the poster did not post the kernel panic). See the bottom of the post for those I have seen.

I would suggest reverting to Sierra. It seems Sierra 10.13.2 did not have this problem but you can't get security updates if you stay there. And it's uncertain when or even if, Apple will address this issue. I had a GPU kernel panic issue with 10.10.3 Yosemite that never got fixed in Yosemite - once I upgraded to El Capitan the kernel panics went away. There may also be a hardware issue (noted in the links below).

Well Thanks Treek! That was really nice of you to reply so quickly. :) I am actually using an external display with my computer. I am going definitely try doing some testing to see if this problem is related because of my external monitor or not something else, like you suggested, the OS. Right now I am running SMCfancontrol, thinking that it might be a heating issue due to the stress that the GPU is under with this 4K external display. So far everything has been stable.

I would guess that you received a bad refurbished logic board. Looks like the GPU on that board is likewise defective. The problem with all of those boards which use that same series of GPU is that lead free solder was used on them. After a period of time the solder cracks or separates. Which is why the re-flow method or oven baking will sometimes work to get the GPU soldered down again.

You could very well be right about your 4K external monitor stressing the GPU but that's assuming the discrete GPU is being used at the time and not the Intel integrated one.

Yeah, it's a real bummer if it does come to the logic board needed to be replaced again. Luckily I have a one year warranty with the technician that I took it into to have it replaced, so there will be no more money that I will need to spend on repairs.

Common issue, microfractures in the joints of U8900, the buck controller IC for GPU Vcore.

The first video shows you up close and personal what it looks like at high magnification.

If you have had this replaced by Apple before you will likely find their "fix" - a rubber pad between that chip and the logic board on the casing.

If what I posted in the above video doesn't do it, then likely yours has also fallen victim to having cracks & microfractures in the board itself.

FIXED!

Okay, I'm not sure what actually fixed my kernel panic problem, but these were the steps that I had taken:

Downgraded to Sierra.
Downloaded the latest Nivida CUDA driver.

Now when I had tried to connect this laptop to my Dell P2715Q via HDMI, I had a kennel panic within 30 seconds. Switching back to my DP-mDP I have been stable at 2560x1440 @ 30Hz

----
I was done on a rMBP 2012 15".

For this specific kernel panic issue, either certain MBP's that were subject to the repair extension program have a flaw that is exposed by High Sierra (10.13.3 and above) -or- these MBP's are OK and High Sierra (10.13.3 and above) has a major bug with regard to this MBP model.

Interesting... my money is on the later of the two simply because this logic board was just replaced less than a month ago. Nonetheless, there’s no way to know for certain at this time. I’m just glad I’m up and running.
