Ok, so until recently I had a mid 2009 13" unibody 2.53GHz pro. In the last year or so I had a lot of issues with it kernel panicing under heavy load, when shutting down, or simply quitting some applications. I took it to Apple numerous times, each time they ran tests, wiped the system and library folders, then came a clean install, and the last time they offered to replace the Hard Drive for £250(!). I figured that seeing as my dad needed a new laptop I may as well treat myself and give my old one to him as he's not a heavy user.

So that brings us to my current problem. My brand new 15" 2.2 i7 is doing the same thing. Except the kernel panics happen randomly. I haven't even had a chance to run the computer under any heavy load yet, and already it's done it to me 3 times this week. All three of these have been when just browsing the internet. I know if I take it to Apple I'm just going to get the same crap as last time, so does anybody have any sensible ideas as to what could be causing it? I haven't installed any pirated software, and when I check the bug report the only thing that I can decipher is something relating to Google Chrome, but I'm pretty sure that can't be the issue? It's driving me nuts, I just want to enjoy my brand new extortionately priced machine :(.

TL;DR: Old laptop kept kernel panicing, bought new one, does it too.

Can you provide the three kernel panic logs?

Can you provide the three kernel panic logs?

Apologies, but where would I find these once I have dismissed them after restarting the computer? I usually read them and then ignore, but in the past two cases I sent them to Apple for the hell of it.

"Mac OS X v10.5 and later

If a kernel panic occurs, information is added to a log file in the folder /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports (Mac OS X v10.6), or /Library/Logs/PanicReporter (Mac OS X v10.5).

The name of each log file in this location includes the date and time when the kernel panic was logged."

From the third link :)

Thanks man, must have missed that.

Here is the first panic:

Post the other two Backtrace parts and let's see, if MBox or Google Chrome or some USB device is responsible.

And how often does it happen?
I once had kernel panics twice a day, only a reinstall could fix that, since then (three/four months ago) I only had two KPs I can safely ignore.

Thanks mate! Well it only used to happen about once or twice a week on my old laptop, but that's because I was always conscious of having too many things open, and never shut it down. Now it's just happening randomly and as I've said, it's happened three times this week.

I have a sneaking suspicion it might be to do with the mbox driver, which would not be cool as I use the mbox for my degree.

You missed this part:

Does it also happen, when the MBox is not connected, or do you need it to be connected all day?

Sorry, the BSD process is always Google Chrome He.

Every time it has happened on the new laptop the MBox has not been connected as far as I recall. However on the old laptop I couldn't tell you. The MBox needs to be connected whenever I am doing any audio work, and also I use it to connect with my speakers so when I'm listening to music it's also connected.

Just an update, it did it again today. Again unplugged from the MBox, and the panic log was largely the same as before, CPU 6 this time.
