I have a 2009 17" MacBook Pro. The last two nights I shut it off it had a kernel panic and rebooted. It's done this a few times in the past when I shut it down as well but I disregarded the occurrences. They have ONLY happened during a shut down.

I can't figure out what the problem is; is my computer just getting to the point where it's old & going bad? Is it software related?

If anyone can shed some light on what might be causing this to happen I'd appreciate it!

Disk utility and repair permissions. If that failed re download the combo os update from apple.

I repaired permissions two nights ago and haven't had a kernel panic since, looks like that did the trick. Thanks!
