SMC reset fixed it also one reboot but not subsequent reboots. The apple store replaced the logic board, the top case, and the ssd and it is still failing tests for high fan error. When I asked if that test indicated if the system component temp was high or it indicated just a abnormal fan running, they weren’t sure.

They are claiming they replaced everything they could, and that is electrical, and it is vintage and so they are giving up.

When I talked through what electrical components were left, we confirmed they didn’t replace the fans, and they agreed that was worth a shot and is the last ditch effort. He said the only other thing is the i/o cable but they don’t have that part anymore.

So ideas anyone? In case I can convince them to check one more thing or someone else can fix it. Thanks in advance.

They replaced the fans, and there is still diagnostic errors, sensors on the logic board that indicate excess temperature near fan, heatsink and gpu; two different logic boards gave that error. As I mentioned fan has been replaced, and new logic board provides new cpu and gpu. They are identifying that I/o cable is the last possible thing to not have replaced and are doing that..

Any thoughts?

It doesn’t seem likely it the I/O cable does it? And if I understand you, they are replacing that too? Maybe there are other components that they missed? If they’re replaced everything and the problem persists... Doesn't really make sense.

If you have a Mac open Activity Monitor and have a look.
I have linux. I am saving for a macbook though. But on this end there is 1 cpu and many cores. 100% of a core on a 4core cpu is 25% on linux and windows. I am guessing macos does things differently judging by your post
