Kernel Task High Memoery Usage

I have a 15" 2.2Ghz 2011 MBP and I noticed that the Kernel Task was using ~ 600MB of memory whereas on my 2008 MBP it was only using about 150MB. I tried repairing disk permissions, using Onyx To clean cache is this normal. I goggled this and other 2011 MBP 15" owners seems to notice this.

What are you doing on your Mac when this happens?

Nothing, as soon as I turn on my mac it goes up to 400MB

ive got the same computer..mine is at 400 right now but ive seen it higher...im guessing normal.
