Hello my fellow Macbook users,
I ran into a problem last weekend while updating to macOS Sierra from El Capitan. This Kernel_Task went through the roof as soon as my MacBook Pro Early 2011(Please see attached for more details of this Machine) finished its upgrade. I went to the Apple store to see if they could troubleshoot it, but they we're unable to. The only thing I was told by the technicians was "It's a hard drive bracket issue, $56 repair but not guaranteed to work after". How could the bracket of been an issue if it was running smoothly before the upgrade? Anyways, I'm back to El Capitan and after using these steps:
"Restart in recovery mode and open terminal: csrutil disable,
Restart normally and enter this in terminal:
# Find the model
$ system_profiler -detailLevel mini | grep "Model Identifier:"
Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,2
# Move and backup the file
$ cd /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/Contents/Resources
$ sudo mv MacBookPro8_2.plist MacBookPro8_2.bak
Restart back into recovery and enter this in terminal:
csrutil enable"
I was able to get kernel_task running back to its original state.
My question now is, when can i upgrade to Sierra? I tried doing the exact same steps on Sierra when i was having the issue but when I'm in recovery mode, i couldn't open terminal. Should i just stay in El Capitan or upgrade to Sierra and try again?
