kernel_task eating 22% CPU on Mavericks MBPr

    kernel_task eating 22% CPU and 2GB RAM - what is this process and why is it using up so much CPU and memory?

    It's the kernel. The heart of the OS, and yes, there is a resource leak in Mavericks.

    so is there some way to fix the resource leak? Or should I just downgrade back to Mountain Lion?

    Restart your computer and it'll go away for awhile.
