I'm probably a bit too curious for my own good, but, i wonder; what exactly _would_ happen if I were to kill -s KILL kernel_task? And on the kernel panic alarm, is it stored as an actual bitmap?

Well why don't you just be your own guinea pig and try it out for yourself. If we don't hear back from you in a while then we know what happened. 😛
the error message? I think that is a text overlay, as I've seen a few fail to write out the whole message before utterly dying.
