kernel_task memory

I've installed iStat menus on my new MBP 13" and noticed that kernal_task was saying it was taking up a lot of memory (1.15GB as you'll see in the first attached screenshot). So I opened Activity Monitor and that says it's only using 240.6MB (see second screenshot).

Is something up here?
