On my iPad 2018 I erased contents and reinstalled a fresh copy of iOS 12.1
To my surprise, iCloud key chain had to be manually turned on and consequently 30 of my passwords have not been carried over - lost.
Also, Mail had to manually be turned on but its the loss of the passwords which has caused havoc. Has anyone else had that problem with loosing your keychain passwords after a fresh install? Is there a solution?
Thanks for your interest.

How along ago did you reinstall the OS? In the past, I have experienced iCloud sync lag and it took a little while for everything to transfer to the device(s) again.

24 hours ago I erased and reinstalled- immediately I noticed Mail had to be turned on but today I began to notice the passwords were missing.
Perhaps if I synch to my MacBook Pro it might remedy it? You mentioning synch gave me the idea. HOPE it works. Still - I’ve been erasing the iPad regularly in the past and never manually synching it to the MacBook. I assume previously the synching was happening automatically by wifi?
So grateful for your thoughts - it may be a solution.

In the middle of several books.

Syncing to your MB should remedy the situation. It is frustrating at times. If I am not mistaken, I ended up having to sync to my MBP at the time, in order to expedite the process.

Awesome!! Passwords are back.
I attached the cable to the MacBook Pro and synched the iPad. Success.
I don't know if this is a factor or not, but recently I installed the latest Mojave Beta update to my MacBook Pro and PERHAPS in iTunes, this build didn't allow for the iPad to synch by wifi... I had to tick the box again in iTunes this morning. The comment back was something like do you want to save the settings which are different to your iPad? I don't know what that meant but I said yes and I have my passwords back.. Thanks again, you ARE a basic great guy!
