I mainly use goggle maps app. Theres a number of times an address doesn't exist in apples mind but is there in google maps. But then im in Australia, so probably not high on the list of things to fix.

Apple May acquire Uber soon

Doubtful ... if anything a company more like Flywheel. Flywheel is gaining some serious ground right now. I stopped using Uber because finding an Uber Taxi is so hit or miss. I have never once had a problem with Flywheel.

If Apple were to acquire a company it would be for the purposes of creating open APIs with tons of cab companies, even more then Flywheel can do today.

Don't get me wrong, Uber isn't going away but I don't see Apple buying them anytime soon.

If flyover is useless, why do you even care? Why shouldn't they replace a third party's software with their own? Especially a competitor making money off of their OS. I don't blame them a bit. Like I said, it's great in some areas, not so great in others. It can't improve if people don't use it and let them know where it lacks. Making Apple Maps default will greatly improve the speed that it improves.

I wasnt thinking of the software but the simple map data. Apple shouldnt spend time and money on something that is already there. They should only make the UI and let others that do it better than well take care of the data to process. Like Garmin does and most other serious navigation tools. Or buy the company :)

Try to go anywhere in Tokyo, Japan -the country with the biggest market share for iOS- using Apple Maps. The map data that Apple is using is laughingly bad and hasn't changed much since 2 years ago.

That's interesting. I live between both Osaka and Tokyo and have never had a single issue. I use it almost exclusively in Japanese since that's the way it's meant to be used (native language i.e. Hanzi/Kanji). I do notice if I use it in English searches can be hit or miss. But that is because of the address format translations between Jap-Eng. I notice the same issues with Google and Bing as well. In Japanese Maps for me is spot-on. Or it least it has been for me.

You should understand that Apple "does not do maps". They get map data from other companies. Therefore they probably can't fix the maps. What would be the point? They fix an error in the map and then in, say, 3 months they get new version of the map from the original supplier and the fix is gone. You need to submit your corrections to original map data suppliers not Apple.

Well it's so nice to see people who still haven't got a clue. Going by this logic. People in the US should be complaining to USGS, in the UK to OS etc.

You get what you pay for, Apple paid for cheap third rate data, they have to deal with it.

Go to Cleveland and navigate from the courtyard marriott off I-271 to Maggianos, also off 271.

When you find yourself in a perpetual loop of u-turns without driving past the restaurant, come back and tell everyone it is fine.

Oh my! Maps can't direct from Courtyard to Maggiano's? I can drive that one blindfolded. It's only one exit away using the highway. Easier on the local road. Maps must be amazingly bad. I don't use Maps. Tried it once. Not impressed.

I'm so thankful for Google Maps. Seriously.

So true, Google Maps have always been the gold standard.

The internal strife at Apple continues as more and more talented people leave. Hidden deep in the bowels of the organization is a level of discord that is unprecedented.

If not for the ability to run on autopilot since Jobs death, Apple would be in deep trouble. But the combination of premium priced products that yield fat profits, and the cult like following of those who worship Apple, keeps sales at a level that will continue to sustain them for some time.

I live in Tokyo, and even leaving the issue of the POI search feature (Google is way ahead in terms of accuracy, relevance and being able to understand both Japanese and English searches regardless of the interface language) aside, the accuracy of Apple Maps is just plain laughable.

A quick example using the map of my immediate neighborhood, Apple Maps on the left and the actual, accurate map on the right: the road that crosses under the rail line (good luck being able to tell the railroad from the other roads on Apple Maps) is inexplicably split into two, not connected roads, with one of its end going into our parking lot. AFAIK, this road -located in a major densely populated area- has been here for at least 60-70 years. Of course, Google Maps has been accurate since day one thanks to their Japanese map provider (Zenrin Datacom).

I live in both Tokyo and Osaka for work. Actually I'm all over the Kansai and Kanto areas all the time. I've never had one issue when using it in Japanese. In fact the app showed a new building where Bing didn't. I found Bing to be awful. As a side note I'm at old sites as well as new so I don't think my luck has to do with the age of the sites I'm visiting. Also Osaka is the most complex area in Japan to map as many of the the streets orientations haven't changed much since the war. Crazy diagonals and not as much parallel uniformity as Kanto. Even with that I've never had an issue. Who knows. Maybe just pure luck.

i dont care but since its highlighted as an important feature it might be good if it worked in more than a few cities.

the original maps wasnt a 3rd party software.

well here is the difference i think its most important that paying customers dont get an inferior products while you are bothered about where the solution comes to the detriment of users. if you have as good or a better fine do it.

and again there is not much in apples history that shows that they will take project seriously enough to make it the best

I've never had a problem with Apple Maps. Yes, Google has better map data, but I've never gotten lost using Apple Maps.

I would have wasted so much times of my life following Apple's map app. It is not accurate most of the times I used it. Sometimes I search for a store, it told me the closest location 50 miles away, to be sure I checked google map and of course there is one near by.

Lets be honest, no one buys an iPhone over Google OR Apple Maps. They specifically mention flyover is only available in a few cities. It isn't like they got everyone's hopes up for it.

You're probably extremely lucky. I haven't done an extensive comparison study between Google Maps and Apple Maps but based on my own experience and the people around me, Apple Maps is at least 10 years behind in terms of the accuracy of their maps, and I'm not even mentioning POI, 3D mode and search features.

The Java-based map app that I had on my flip phone in 2001 (see pic) was more accurate than Apple's in 2014. Sure it didn't have GPS and it was slow as hell but it was already using professional mapping data and not the amateurish stuff that's in the iPhone's default map.
