hello!
new here and new to Macbook.
i was wondering if anyone could help solve an issue i an having. everything was working fine and when i cleared the computer and reinstalled the OS the backlight on the keyboard wasn't working and the option in the keyboard part of the "system Preferences" has completely disappeared. i tried the SMC Reset and the PRAM reset and nothing. also tried reinstalling the OS again and its still not there. any help would be great, thanks

2010 Macbook Pro 13"

Note dim switches (F5 and F6) also don't respond for it either.

I've had issues with the keyboard backlight on my 2018 too, but not the same as yours. Seems like something is messed up on the software side (mine was hardware related).

no spills, no drops. looks like the tape just became un stuck and it popped out. my issue now is that is i have nothing in the keyboard setting to adjust and or turn the back light on.

im almost positive its softwear becuase the setting have disappeared. other than that everything else is working fine.

Ok so, I have had this MacBook for 2 weeks. And it’s clearly been worked on before. The clip is extremely loose and the tape is what basically held it in place. I used some new electrical tape and it’s held in place pretty well. I couldn’t figure out how to get the backlight setting to come back up in the “system preferences” so I downaloaded a program called “lab tick” and boom backlight is functioning. I’m fine with this for now I guess. Thanks for the help.
