Keyboard Backlight on MBP broken

I've got an mid 2007 Macbook Pro. The keyboard backlight on the right side of the keyboard is faulty and does not light up. I don't have applecare. What can I do to fix this?

Are the lights in the keyboard itself? If I replace the physical keyboard when I replace my HD, will that resolve my keyboard backlight issue?

Have you tried to use LabTick to turn it on? Is this a 17" MBP?

15" 2007 model. I am using labtick, an entire portion of the keyboard does not light up while the rest does.

where are the LEDs located? will replacing the keyboard fix this?
