Recently I purchased a parts & repair PowerBook G4 that actually works just fine from Goodwill. It is the 1.5/1.33 GHz series (1.5 GHz model) and shipped with the optional keyboard backlight. The thing that I noticed is that the keyboard backlight is much more dim than the 1.5/1.67 GHz series (1.67 GHz model) PowerBook I already owned. When compared between this 1.5 GHz, the 1.67 GHz PowerBook, and my MacBook Pro, the 1.5 GHz looks really dim in comparison.

Is it possible that the old age is simply wearing the light out? People who own this model or earlier ones would you be able to compare?

Yes.

The backlight on my 1.0Ghz 17" is non-existant compared to the one on my 1.67Ghz 17".

Sometimes on the 1.0 the backlight is more of a hindrance than a help.

I guess it has to do with who made the earlier model. Just my luck that after I write this post the hard drive completely dies...

The backlight on my 1.5(swapped to 1.67)is still very bright.

Is yours a 1.5/1.67 GHz series or a 1.33/1.5 GHz series? Here is a curve ball, I started my G5 off the PowerBook in Target Disk Mode, but the PowerBook won't start on its own.
