Keyboard backlight

Weird issue. Early 2011 17" MB Pro (now since declared obsolete) and it when it boots up, the keyboard is backlit. I have to turn it off every single time. I don't know what the issue is. Just weird. Any ideas?

Reset the SMC?

More likely NVRAM

I'm having the same issue on a 2012 rMBP, I have reset SMC and NVRAM to no success. I have to turn off backlighting every time I restart my MacBook, quite annoying.
