Keyboard backlighting very, very dim at max setting

At the max setting, using LabTick, the keyboard backlighting is dim, like maybe 1/3rd that of my uMBP.

Is this normal?

This, along with the poor screen and battery showing 89% health after only 32 cycles is making me question the build quality on the air.
