Can anyone recommend a good keyboard case or cover for the new iPad (5th. Gen 2017)? Every one I see online is either super expensive and bulky or super cheap. It's too bad Apple's keyboard cover only works with the iPad PRO, but it's way over priced.

On that iPad, you'd need something that connects via Bluetooth in almost all cases, although there is a unit from Logitech sold to education customers that taps into the Lightning port and adds a detachable keyboard:

I think the Logitech keyboard folios for the iPad Air should fit - other than the volume buttons being bigger and the mute/rotation switch being removed, the 2017 iPad and the iPad Air (not Air 2) are the same dimensions. These should be pretty inexpensive, as they've been around for about 4 years now (something like this):

As for me, I typically use the Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard when I want to type, or just carry the iPad with a Smart Cover and cheapie plastic shell on the back (got it heavily discounted a few years ago):

I've been looking for a cheap plastic shell also. I was thinking the same thing. Have a lightweight shell with a smart cover for normal use, but a keyboard or keyboard cover when necessary. Any ideas on who makes shells for the iPad 2017. I've only seen the Tech21

Anyone have recommendations for just an inexpensive equivalent of the old apple smart case? There are so many on amazon, that it's hard to know what is good and what is crap. ESR? DTTO? Roartz? MacAlly?

This is the one I got - $15 on Amazon and fits quite nicely - there's a lip that fits around the Smart Cover, but does not keep it permanently attached to the iPad - just a bit harder to accidentally get ripped off - I like it:

I got one made by a company called Fintie. It was like 33 bucks on amazon. It only arrived today so I don’t have extensive use with it, but I like the feel of the keys and the look and size of it when its closed. There’s one slight annoyance and that is this little flap on the back that basically adds an extra step to setting it up, but overall I feel that this is a great value. If I use it so much it breaks, then maybe I’ll find a better quality one.

This is fairly expensive but Logitech’s Slim Folio is a nice case for the IPad 2017 model. The main feature I like is no charging. The CR2032 batteries will last 4 years according to Logitech. I’m not expecting the batteries to last that long but even if they last 2 years I wouldn’t complain. Typing is a little cramped but I don’t think it would get any better with other keyboard / case combination offferings either. Adds a little more weight to the unit and using it in portrait mode is a little cumbersome. I use my iPad like a laptop though so this isn’t much of an issue for me.

Overall I like the case though.

That looks like a nice alternative to my Logitech.

Hi does this keyboard fit the iPad with a case on it, a thin one?
