This is for those with the 2016/2017 MBP due to the reported issues with dust screwing up the keyboard. Has anyone tried using a keyboard cover? if so, has it helped in any way shape/form?

YES, I know someone is going to say that a pro, premium machine shouldn't have this problem in the first place, but since there is, I don't want it to be part of the discussion.

I made a similar thread with the same question a while ago and the conclusion is that 1. the cover won't help much (in fact it may even help capture dust) and it's not sure if dust is the culprit of certain issues, 2. the cover degrades the feel of the keyboard. So, no, probably not a good idea.

I can't believe Apple has actually convinced so many people that dust is the primary culprit for the keyboard failures.

Dust...food...whatever it the problem is, I don't really care.

I might be stuck getting this laptop soon for work (self purchase) and if I can prevent this issue from happening then I don't quite care. But if the cover won't prevent it then Applecare seems like a good investment if the unit is going to break sooner rather than later.

I'll clarify. Getting junk stuck under the keys might be a secondary problem experienced by those with really poor hygiene but it's not the primary issue. Apple is using the dust explanation as an excuse to place at least partial blame on the consumers to save their ass.

The real problem is related to either excessive/prolonged heat warping the key components, or physical wear over time caused by typing. The design/construction is simply flawed.

So no the keyboard cover won't help, and yes your keyboard will probably fail prematurely.
