Just wondering how many of you use a keyboard cover and if you put anything between the keyboard and the screen when you close the lid of your MacBook Pro?

I've used keyboard covers on my 2015 MBA. It affected the typing experience so much that I could not use it. That and the key prints on the screen were just too much.

The 2017 MBP has a much lower profile keyboard - I don't see how a keyboard cover could work.

THAT SAID...

I do buy a RadTech cloth for the keyboard and often lay it on top of my keyboard when leaving my laptop opened for the night. While it works fine when closing the laptop lid, I don't usually leave it in there when shutting the lid, but it works fine to do that. Helps keep the keyboard clean.

I use Uppercase Keyboard cover on all of my MBPs. I tend to like Moshi products, but their keyboard cover was a tad too thick so it had decreased tactile feel. The Uppercase one is very thin and I prefer using them since it prevents the oils from building up on the keys and prevents the physical touch of the screen surface. (I also use Moshi iVisor matte so reduce glare and prevent Staingate).

Thanks for the replies!

Do you close your lid with a keyboard cover insitu?

yes, I do on all 3 MBPs. Since all 3 also have Moshi iVisors on the screens, no issues. No oils on keyboard, touchpad, palmrest and no staingate on the screens.

I use one from Kuzy with my 2020 MBP, and haven't had any problems. With my 2015 I used the ones from ShaggyMax, but they are thicker than the Kuzy, and I think the tolerances for the gap on the >2015 laptops is tighter, so something thinner is better.

I use a slicon cover I bought from AliExpress for about $3. I try to remember to put a sheet of paper between it and the screen to stop it form leaving marks.

I use the DHZ Ultra Thin Transparent Keyboard Cover Skin for MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. I installed it when I first got i my 2017 MBP - especially after reading of all of the issues with the butterfly keys. I will say it is very thin and hardly noticeable.

I have noticed if I don’t keep the keyboard cover clean of finger print oils it will leave oily impressions on the screen. But the keyboard still works perfectly so I imagine it helped with keeping dust from getting under the keys.

I have a new 2020 MBP coming Wednesday and I do not plan to use a keyboard cover. I admit I really hate the feel of the cover when typing.

Paper is abrasive. I wouldn't.
I really doubt tha a piece of printer paper laying between keys and screen would be an issue. Paper is abrasive but I doubt it would be able to damage screen simply by laying on it.

It's not just lying on it. You've got that on top of another layer that is on top of the keys. So it's being pressed against the screen. Doesn't take much flex. I suppose if you used linen paper or something...

I really doubt the paper's grit is enough to cause damage just by being pressed against it.
