    mke and the oc
in an unfortunate incident today, my mbp took a fall about 1.5 ft to the floor. it landed ExpressCard/34 slot side down first before resting in normal operating position. it survied, sans my usb iphone cable that was plugged in, which bent 45 degrees at the point where the plastic meets the metal. now i've noticed 2 things: a thin strip of metal above the latch button has slightly bubbled out and now my 'delete' key no long has the spring back action. :( the key is still functional, but i can tell it's a bit misaligned and not as perfect as the rest.

could the fall combined with the cable have fuxor'ed up the frame and just affected this one key? in your past experiences, is this something apple would fix for free? should i try something myself?

this baby is only 3 months old!!

That certainly does suck, and I sympathize with you. Unfortunatly, this is something Apple will almost certainly not fix for free. Pretty much any physical damage to the machine that wasn't caused by Apple is outside of their warranty.

However, it sounds like the only thing that may really be broken is the "spring" under the delete key, well, overlooking how it's skewed. You may draw some sympathy from someone at the Apple store who might be kind enough to show you how to pop off the key to see... And if they're really nice they might have a spare key (or spring assembly) they can give you.

That's all really just speculation however. Try bringing in a batch of cookies to win their hearts. :)
