You can pop the 'z' off and clean underneath it. The instructions are floating around. Maybe it got a bit gummed up.

I’ve tried this. Seems to be broken. Key is sticking even with the mechanism popped out

I had one like this that was slow. Someone had sticky fingers and used the computer. Cleaned it up with a lightly damped cloth and it resumed normal functioning. At least it was working fine when I sold it 6 months later.
