I'm trying to change some keyboard shortcuts in Mountain Lion to one key. To be exact, I want to bind the shift+control+eject keys that turns off the monitor into a single button press. is there any software that can get this done? Or is there any alternate software I can use to turn off the screen? help would be appreciated.

You could set a hot corner that puts the display to sleep and just your mouse to that corner.

Having Macs for over 4 years I feel a little silly not knowing but wanted to thank you all for the key combos/hot corners suggestions in this thread. :)

Go to Apple.com/support, they have lots of info there. If you invest some time learning OS X you'll get better, faster & enjoy it more.
