Hey everyone,

I recently restored Snow Leopard to my MacBook using the Time Machine utility on the Snow Leopard install disk. Now every time I want to use an AIM account in iChat I have to type in my password. I get the following popup:

Please enter your login ID and password for AOL Instant Messenger.
Then down at the bottom there is a checkbox for "Remember this password in my keychain". Of course I've checked it, and then clicked Log In, but every single time I get this popup window asking for my password. When I open Keychain Access, and click on the AIM login key entry, the Get Info window opens as usual, but if I tick the "Show Password" checkbox, I am told "Access to this item is restricted". What can I do? This is driving me crazy... I had no problem with this before the backup.

I have this same problem.

After a time machine backup restore of snow leopard iChat/Jabber has stopped remembering my password.
Each time I close iChat it forgets.
This affects all my accounts in iChat (mobileme etc) - I have checked.

I have done the following:
1. repair disk permissions
2. first aid on keychain
3. Unistalled iChat and then done a fresh install
4. Reset Keychain
5. Done another restore from timemachine

I can't fathom the problem.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

try searching for keychain access via spotlight.

Than delete the entry associated to the application in question. Than try login in again.

See if that helps.

I am having exactly the same problem after a Time Machine restore. Did you ever resolve this?

I found a solution that worked for me. Might work for you too.

In addition to iChat prompting for a password at every login, I was also having trouble with quick look not displaying photos or playing video. Upon research on that topic, someone suggested downloading a 10.6.2 'combo' update seen here.

After the install and reboot, iChat and quick look both seem to be behaving properly. I am no longer prompted to enter my iChat login. Relief!!!

Good luck, let me know if this works for everyone else.
