Do the dials work as shuttle dials in video editing apps?
The dials are programmable to any key or key combination you want. Generally, there's one for knob left, knob right and knob press.

They usually come pre-programmed for vol-up, vol-dn, and mute, but you could program it to do cmd-plus, and cmd-minus with each rotation -- kind of like a zoom in/out dial.

If it can be done with a key combo, it can be done with the knob.

Could be tricky getting video scrubbing to work on keyboard dials because sometimes the option to assign it won’t appear. I will have to ask around some more.

I see. I'm not a video editor, but otherwise, it's very easy to program the dial to perform any key combo. The keyboard on my machine at work has the dial programmed to PgUp and PgDn, which allows me to scroll smoothly through a stack of medical CT or MR images on the software we use, and for whatever reason, the software is faster & smoother with the keyboard than it is with a mouse wheel.

If you go with something like the K Pro series (or V series or Q series), you can rebind the Mic key (or any other keys you want) to any key or key combo you want without having to install any additional software like Karabiner. And since there's no extra software to install, your corporate IT policy can't lock it out.

Thanks but as part of the office makeover I was trying to get away from the retro look. I was rocking that for years thanks in part to Unicomp (the reason I miss buckling spring switches).

Here’s my Keychron K2 Wireless (Version 2)

Some of my original keycaps started to wear… I bought these replacements from Amazon, I believe. I’m going to try for black keycaps next time around… definitely my favorite keyboard.

I have a BlackWidow Elite Mechanical Keyboard as well… but I use the Keychron substantially more.

How are those homepod minis work as computer speakers? (I assume that's how you're using them)
Yes and no.

For most computer audio, I actually default to the iMac's speakers. The reason for this is because what I listen to most off the computer are YouTube videos, and the iMac just sounds "better" to my ears at either 6/16 or 8/16 points of volume, where the minis would require as much if not more volume for the voices to sound as clear as the iMac.

However, the minis are way better for music; if I have my Apple Music library playing, I have the app automatically defaulting to the minis. They fill the room at a quarter max volume (where the iMac requires three-quarters or more to achieve the same), and allow me to keep the music playing (or just ambient noise) whenever I need something else playing from the iMac speakers.

But ultimately, sound is super subjective, so YMMV. Most I can say is to try it out for yourself if you have a pair, see if it works for you

Ive been using Apple Keyboards since I got my first Mac in 2012. When I got my M2, I ordered a new one just for touchID. Then about a month later, I decided to try out a Keychron on a whim. I got my RGB K5 and havent even looked at my touchID board since. Ive left it with stock keycaps, but I ordered it with Red switches, and didnt love them. I tend to rest my fingers on the keys when I pause, and it was registering key presses with just the weight of my fingers. So, after ordering one of their sample packs of switches, I decided on a set of Bananas, and couldn't be happier.

Sometimes I think about pulling my magic keyboard out of the closet, but then I cant bring myself to stop typing on this one.

Also, while the keyboard can be used wirelessly. I like to leave my RGB on, so I got their coiled cable and just leave it plugged in. The bluetooth tended to loose connection to my MBP in clamshell mode, sitting a fair distance from my desktop. So, two birds, one stone. And I dont think the cable looks bad on my already cluttered desk surface.

Edit: MBP behind the speaker/monitor is my old cMBP, Not the M2 the keyboard is used with.

It's a nice set up! Props for the Basic Apple Guy wallpaper 😋

Also: is that an old model of iPhone/iPod as a permanent clock beneath your display?

Thanks, I have quite a few of his saved. This is just the one in rotation at the moment.

And it is, its an old SE. I work in Hazardous Waste, and sometimes in universal waste (e-waste) I get good finds. Ive probably got 30 different iPhones of all different generations, And a variety of other things. Actually both of my Cinema Displays on my mini setup are from e-waste. (and have a 3rd, I just dont use at the moment).

You can listen to the green switch here. Click through to the next page and they have an internal animation of how the switch works.

Wow a switch that emulates the IBM Type M keyboard switches. My first love in keyboards.😍
Well no, it won't, if the Internet (Reddit et al) is to be believed. It's just the closest you can get in terms of actuation force and sound level.

Nothing can replace IBM buckling springs. ALPS switches come pretty close (posted earlier in this thread), but Matias' keyboards are generally pitiful.

Found buried in a Reddit discussion: the Keychron Mic key can be activated as follows. In Ventura System Settings, you pick fn-Space as the Siri keyboard shortcut from the drop-down menu. Voila, the mic key is now a Siri key.

I would prefer that this was a Dictation key, but alas Ventura won’t let you set fn-Space as the shortcut for that.

On my Windows work machine, I’ll have to bribe one of our IT guy to enable Cortana for me :p

I set Ventura to F16 for Siri and programmed my Mic key to be F16. Works same way.

I then programmed a second layer so fn-Mic will mute/unmute my microphone Zoom meetings (forgot the key combo; CMD-Shift-M maybe? Not in front if it now).

And I programmed the 4 arrow keys to work the same way they do on Mac keyboards... Fn-up is page up, fn-down is page down, fn-left is home and fn-right is end (or something like that; again, not in front of it). And one of my extra function keys above the numpad opens the emoji panel (like the fn/globe key does on Mac keyboards).

Neither the K8 nor the K10 (the ones I have) go to F16 🤔

Did Spinal Tap make your keyboard?

I will take what I can get. 😁

I am typing on the K10. This is without any doubt the most solid keyboard I have ever owned. I never thought I would find a keyboard like this. all I need now is a wrist brace. My search for a keyboard has ended.
