I have a Keychron V5 USB keyboard connected to my 2019 iMac 5K (iMac 19,1, Intel) running MacOS Ventura 13.3.1.

When I try to use any of the Mac startup keys, the Mac acts as if no keys were used and starts up as normal. For Example: Holding the "Shift" key should boot the Mac into Safe Mode, Cmd-S should boot the Mac into Single User mode, "Option" should bring up boot disk selection mode and Cmd-Option-P-R should do a PRAM reset. In all cases, a regular boot happens.

I still had my old keyboard which I had to use to start my Mac in Safe Mode. Why am I having issues with the Keychron? It seems to work fine in all other respects (so far).

Any ideas? Keychron support hasn't been very useful. Their latest response was to send them a video of the issue. What could a video possibly reveal? The issue is so simple and straightforward.

Thanks!

I'll let others chime in as well, but I believe this is a common phenomenon with most/all non-Apple keyboards, not just Keychron.

I have found the same thing. The keyboard doesn't communicate until the computer has booted, even though it is wired. Had the same issue with Logitech wireless keyboards. I think Das Keyboard is the only non-mac keyboard I can access the Mac with during boot.

My old Macally keyboards all work fine.
