So I've been working for 4 hours on a Keynote presentation for tomorrow. Then I import something from a Powerpoint file. Keynote crashes.

No problem thinks I. I'll just open the savefile. Maybe I've lost 10 mins work but that's fine.

Nope. THERE'S NO AUTO-RECOVER FILE!!! THERE'S NO SETTING TO ACTIVATE AUTOSAVE

How can Apple call this a work application if it doesn't autosave? ARRGH!!!

Other apple apps implement data protection and crash recovery, (iMovie, FCP etc) how about some of it here in KeyNote??

    Try two things:
    1. Delete the plist and retry.
    2. Reinstall if u can.

Lack of an autosave feature is more than a little questionable (come on, even Microsoft Office does this...), but after 4 hours why wouldn't you save it manually even just once?

Sorry to hear you lost a ton of work... For future reference though (and until Apple implements an autosave feature into iWork), you may want to checkout EverSave. It's basically a free third-party tool that'll do it for you.
