Hi,
I’m using an iPad Pro 2018 (4GB RAM) since launch and usually prefer iWork to Office App because of the UI and how they don’t take a year and a half to add any new OS features.
So I’m frequently using Number and Page but I had not used Keynote for at least a year.
I tried to use it today for a couple hours and it was absolutely unusable. I created a very light file with a single slide and nothing but text. When I’m typing it sometimes takes takes 20s to register a keystroke. I can literally see 1 keystroke being registered per second as if it was using the whole RAM. It also register some keystroke twice for no reason.

I tried to reboot my iPad 3 times and even to close all my background apps, but it doesn’t change a thing. The app even crashed on me once. I tried to search for an update but I’m on the last version of the app. I tried to change my Magic Keyboard for the Mac Magic Keyboard + Trackpad but the issue remains. I have absolutely no lag on any other apps nor any typing issue.

I sometimes have crazy lags when I’m using Number with thousands of lines (even if it’s only text) but I have never experienced anything like what I’m facing with Keynote now.

It’s unbelievable that an Apple app is such trash. I should at least be able to do basic office work on a $1000 device.

So I was wondering if anyone tried the app recently and faced similar issues?

I have never used Keynote but decided to try it to see whether mine does the same. It doesn’t. I’m using a 2018 iPad Pro 11 with the Smart Keyboard. I chose the Parchment theme, created a title slide, then one with a title and a bunch of text, and then another title/text and didn’t type much on it. There was no lag at all for me.

I hope you figure out what’s causing the problem. I would be frustrated, too.

I too have never used Keynote on my iPad Pro 2017 but fired it up to test. Works like a champ. I created a presentation from template with a dozen slides using random photos and even a video slide with no lag during creation. Not sure what might be the issue for OP. Does anyone know if file location of the prese or source images would contribute to lag?

Made a lot of keynote with this app in the past, no problem at all also when I put a lot of video in the keynote.

Is your file in an external HD? Tried to remove and re-install keynote app?

That’s odd, the file was on the internal drive with plenty of storage left.
Anyway I exported my file as a ppt file so I could finish working on it on PowerPoint.

I just uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the issue seems to be gone for now.
I have no idea what was going on, anyway thanks for the help!

Hi there,

I am using a 12.9” - 2020 iPad PRO 256 GB, I have the same issues.

Since the last update of Keynote, the app basically became almost unusable. When I’m typing it takes takes a few seconds to register each keystroke. It also registers some space or backspace keystrokes twice for no reason. Also there are some issues with cmd + c/x and cmd+v.

Maybe somebody elese experienced this and has a thought on how to solve it. Or maybe it is an app issue that will be solved in the future updates. But for now, Keynote app is almost unusable.
