These two cases seem to be the most similar to the now discontinued Apple versions.

What have been people’s experiences so far?

I have a khomo rear shell arriving Thursday for my 10.5. I had one for my 9.7 and it was great. The color was off - didn't expect "stone" to be lilac:) but the construction and fit was spot on.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the 10.5 version. Ended up getting the JETech since it was free shipping with Prime.

Others have said the KHOMO and JETech are very similar. The case had perfect cutouts and feels good in hand

I got both, but my Khomo is the twill one and I'm loving it. Will test out the Jetech at some point, but I'm very impressed with the Khomo. My last experience with them was a pretty bad case for my iPad 2.

I got the JETech for the 10.5 and the Khomo Dual for the new 12.9. Aside from the Khomo having the speaker grills fully exposed, they are very similar is design, feel and thickness. Having them both in my hand, I would be completely indifferent to which one I got in all honesty with availability and price likely to be the deciding factors.

My JETech case has the speakers fully exposed, but I have seen reviews on Amazon with the precise speaker holes.

Wonder if JETech made a change in design

I noticed on mine it has the individual holes but the whole area around the speaker has an indentation where it would be cut out if it was fully exposed. It may well be a case of them changing the tooling after feedback.

Seems like you’re right. They released new colors and product photos with full cutouts.

Here's the KHOMO for comparison...

KHOMO just arrived at earliest projected date.

Quick thoughts:

  • The edges of the back cover are raised above the champherred edges and the screen. Not to the level of Apple's silicone 9.7 case, but pretty good.
  • The back cover thickness protects the camera lens
  • The cutouts are perfect, except around the camera where it's not perfectly centered -- we're talking mm off, no functional issues at all
  • The rubberized back is much more "slippery" than Apple silicone back cover for 9.7. With the Apple, I'd have difficulty sliding the iPad across the top of my TV tray (flat wood). The KHOMO is in between but closer to a leather/plastic back than it is to Apple's silicone material as far as tackiness
  • Sleep/wake works
  • Front cover has a bit more thickness/sturdiness than prior years Amazon sourced inexpensive iPad cases(Roark,JETech)
  • Front cover does not hang over the volume button side of the iPad, making it somewhat difficult to open it without moving to the top or bottom to lift it. Magnets are good.
  • Has open slots for the speakers vs drilled holes, a positive if you think volume might be a bit low on the 10.5
  • No covered buttons/switches, so you're not pressing through a case to activate anything
  • Inside cover material is suitably soft
  • No logos on the outside of the case

Please excuse the dust/marks. It was windy/dusty outside with a few rain drops.

There are no imperfection marks anywhere on the KHOMO case...

Only ding I can give it is the slight misalignment around the camera. (Case depth protects the lens)

Both mic holes are spot on.

Is this the black case? Looks more charcoal, which I would actually prefer over black.

I think people should also check out Leplus. I bought this cover in Japan and it is very nice, seems similar to the KHOMO or JETech
