I guess it really depends on what you do for work. If you are doing scientific research you may not want to show the things like joost, or poop alerts, or the trippy iTunes visualization.😀
oh a side note: here is what I did. I called my boss and said "hey I can print off the network printers again, be it on my MBP". Then i rolled the crappy PC into the hall.
Next week, money for my MBP and a copy of Vista (sadly)
your work-specific software, which may be cool or not.
I find that the best way to impress you colleagues at work is to simply multiply your productivity and stay humble at the same time. Eye-candy is really a meaningless thing, or else we would all be running Vista.
The developer stopped because he thought it would be wasted because of Spaces... BUT that means no more slapping desktop changes (until there is a hack for Spaces)

shapeshifter is definitely a cool one as far as eye candy goes. you could also use bootcamp and put windows xp on there and show them that if need be a mac can run windows xp. quiksilver and ialertu are very nice simple apps that can be very useful. I also forgot where I got it but there is a script that will make the background of your desktop the same as a motion screensaver.
