So much wrong with this news. A horrible end to a young life...and how does someone, let alone a teenager, breach airport security so badly?

I heard about this on the local news a week or so ago. The wheel well? How does that happen

It's just above the wheel, below the body of the plane (or fuselage I suppose) but above the wheel in a little gap. What an awful story.

People manage to break out of maximum security prisons. How difficult could it actually be to sneak into an airport. Which is a large open area.

Is this what Arnold did in the movie "Commando"?

I don't think the wheel-well is pressurised or heated.

He was probably dead when they lowered the undercarriage for landing.

I can't believe metal detectors didn't catch this.

That's it.....PET scans of every passenger!

Indeed. Here in Europe they find several bodies a year in the wheel wells of flights from Africa. I only hope the lack of air pressure leaves them unconscious before the cold gets them. Very unpleasant way to go.

I guess if there is a positive to this story it is that he didn't fall on the highway or into a crowd of people. It must have been a shock to discover his body in the bushes, never mind if he fell on a moving car or in a heavily trafficked area.

Says he was ran over by a Jeep and an Audi.

Side note: What the hell was this kid thinking? Tragic? Yes. Idiotic? Without a doubt.

Could he have froze to death that quickly though? I didn't read any where in the article about what kind of clothes were found.

    November 15th, 2010 Charlotte N.C. weather, 17ºC, no precipitation.

Probably not much, as he didn't seem to have the smarts about what he was up against.

Once you are above the clouds, temperature drops well into the minuses. Lowest I can remember was -52ºC, which would kill you in no time at all, particularly if you aren't dressed for it.

That's Darwin for you. (I expect an American teen to know you die at those altitudes.)
