Im 18 and have an iphone. Im thinking about keeping it and not upgrading it to 3g becuase every normal person will have an iphone 3g with its disgusting plastic back and it will no longer be exclusive. I like the fact that not many people have iphones in the UK. It means they are still cool. They wont be much longer though, it will be like the ipod nano and the last generation BMW M3. Everyone will have one, including stupid yobs who dont know who Apple are and people who think their Samsungs are better then my iphone because they have a 2.1 megapixel camera.

i know what you mean!

im 16, and i want the iphone because my ipod broke and i need somthing to keep my calender organized, and the internet on the go is not a bad feture! ha

but like 10 of my friends have iphones and i would say 1 of them actuallly knows how to use it correctly with all the fetures and everything, i was actually riding with them to dallas (i live in texas) and she was like oh! my goodness! bradley look what i found on my phone, shes had it for a year and she just found out that it had google maps!! she only bought it for the "cool effect" it was kinda annoying. when i get a device i use it to the full potential!! and i search for secret things beyond obvious and use them!! ha:rolleyes:

I guess you can't have your cake and eat it. Popularity = money to Apple = more R&D money. More people = more software.
People who aren't buying Apple because it's getting more popular now are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. Yes, oiks will use it, but then think of the installed user base of Microsoft products ;)
Apple's products have more going than exclusivity. Kinda hurts people who use Apple as a symbol of exclusivity or one-upman ship, rather than just using the darn things. Many a person can just go out and buy something, but there are a lot of people who won't use things to their fulll potential - be it an M3, sports car, Apple laptop, iPhone or elsewise.
If you want to flash cash, it seems that now the iPhone is becoming more accessible to others, and gaining popularity, tthe number of paid apps or bespokeness of their phone will become the new "wad" standard perhaps.

I wish everyone would get an iphone with ATT service so I can have the lowest calling plan, and unlimited m2m I could call anyone for free and talk as much as I wanted.

You make some good points, but i dont only have it for its exclusivity factor. I do use it to its full potential. The reason i never bought a nano at the time was becuase people would have seen me as being somebody who copies everyone else. I know i sounds stupid but grammar school can have a strange effect upon a person.

true...

demand also drives the price.
If an item is high priced and exclusive, this will run up the 'want' factor...so when the price drops into a more comfortable zone with great availability to the consumer, there will be high consumption rates. The high consumption will drive availability back down...running the price right back up.

It seems to be a vicious circle, if you ask me.

I feel you. White, 500 mhz G3 iBook in college. Only one to bring my laptop to class for a time.

The uniqueness is gone, and while not terrible, I do miss it.

I feel the same way about my Apple products from bygone days. I get all misty-eyed thinking about the Powerbook 180 that was handed down to me when I went to university. Nobody else took laptops to class at that time. I felt supercool. I was handed down another Powerbook after that (goodbye trackball, remember how awesome that was?). Eventually, I saved enough to get the first-gen iBook (the toilet seat!), which launched on my birthday in 1999. Super hip! Then the iBook G4. I was also the first person in the family and out of all my friends to get the first iPod. (I had a Nomad Jukebox before that... a stop-gap while waiting for Apple to get on the MP3 train!) And then the iPod photo (colour!!) after that. Man, it was fun being the early adopter in the family. I was also the first one to get a MacBook, but by then the fun of being the "only one" with a new Apple product had mostly worn off. Maybe I'm getting old! But there's no real early adopter cachet anymore. Le sigh! :)

LOL I'd say at 16 your calendar must be INSANE to keep up with.

yeahh you guys need to chill.

i spend $600 on like handbags lmao so i could definitely afford the iphone at that price but i had waited and waited and waited for 7 months for this 3G iphone and i'm glad that it's cheaper. i don't think EVERYONE is gonna have it because a lot of people on here are going crazyyyyyyyy over the increase in the plans. even if they did, i don't really care..... i want an iphone because i'm sick of lugging around my stupid razr and ipod.

I don't think everyone and their mother will have one of these. I rarely see iPhones as it is, and only the people who are absolutely willing to pay $70/month for this are going to get it. With the increasing price of necessities these days and the want for parents to restrict their kids access and time periods on computers/video games/internet, I doubt this is going to be as bad as some think it will be.

Yeah, basically everyone is just like you.

Yes, but I know of young people e.g 15+ who do pay £30 a month and £100 for the phone is relatively low.

I'm 15. I dont have one, and dont intend to get one (unless the contract on the next one is insanely cheap)
there are some right ****s in my year who have them and also get ANYTHING they want. they only have them cos they go "ive got an iphone" (SLAP!)

the only thing i NEVER want to happen is for a chav to get its hands on one. that would make me cringe

I was 15 when I bought the iPhone on launch day and am now a year older, woohoo! Anways, I like that alot of people have the iPhone, it is kind of a conversation starter and a way to meet new people.

I was just at a college university for the past 5 days and there were 5 other people in my program that had an iPhone besides me. They are all 16/17 and do use it frequently. I don't think the iPhone is for people that aren't gonna take advantage of all the features, but there's nothing we can do.

why do you need an iPhone? YOU'RE THIRTEEN???????? It's not like middle school allows constant texting and and internet access.... or do you?

PS. I just want to gain some perspective of early teenagers and why they even need all that functionality. Thank You
You must lack a great amount of intelligence. I nowhere in that post said that I need an iPhone, and while we're on the topic, I do not have an iPhone, but I plan to get one because of it's capabilities, not it's coolness factor. I said in that post that I would love to have an iPhone because I, unlike many other teens, know lots about technology. I use an iPod touch because I can't afford the monthly plan of an iPhone, but my iPod still brings me that nice feature-capable version of OS X.

Regardless of age, the iPhone runs a near complete version of OS X, can support underlying BSD tools, and MANY other things that thrill technology enthusiasts everywhere.

Don't attack the people younger than you just because they know more than you... Being older makes you no more 'privileged' than anyone here.
Thank you very much. The great features of the iPod touch/ iPhone do thrill me. I am as you said, a technology enthusiast, and I am aware of what the iPhone can do, and that's why I want one.

I got the iPhone and i'm 15. I have an ebay business and even have a REAL credit card not some prepaid crap. I use it because its easy to use. I didn't get it to make a scene or anything.
